Since sending out my comprehensive radiation blog on March 28th, events have continued to unfold. While it is very difficult to get accurate radiationexposure information from the media, no news does not mean radiation exposure is not happening. Authorities have now decided that this event is no longer equivalent to the Three Mile Island incident (a category 5), but that the event has been upgraded to the highest level, a level 7 disaster, which is the worst level, and at least on the par with Chernobyl. The Fukushima complex actually has at least six nuclear reactors and six fuel ponds, making its potential radiation exposure equivalent to eight nuclear reactors. It has had three documented meltdowns so far. It is now believed that the current crisis is 1,000 times worse than ever anticipated by the nuclear reactor builders, and has already exceeded Chernobyl by 10 percent. Instead of a one-time Chernobyl blast, it is a steady leak that they estimate will take a minimum of three months to gain control of.
This may prove to be the largest nuclear disaster in the history of the world. Over 1,300 fission products (as one would get from a nuclear bomb explosion) have come out of the Fukushima nuclear complex. Radioactive nano-products are highly charged and accumulate in raindrops. It is of great concern that there were unusual and intense rains for up to 10 days in California’s Los Angeles and San Francisco areas during the region’s dry season, which seemed perfectly timed to amplify the concentration of radioactivity into the water system. The radiation of I-131 in the rainwater outside San Francisco was measured at 18,100 times above allowable levels. In Pennsylvania, they are currently measuring I-131 in the water at 3,300 times above federal standards.
The radiation that is being measured in general from the Fukushima release includes I-131, cesium 134, cesium 137, uranium 238, and xenon 133. Vietnam, which is 4,000 km away from the Fukushima reactor, is now reporting an increase in U-238 in pine needles. Radiation, in general, has been found 300 times higher in the U.S. milk supply. Nuclear radiation in Hawaiian milk has been found to be 2,033 percent higher than permissible levels.Radiation in milk has already been reported in Phoenix, Arizona; Spokane, Washington; Montpellier, Vermont; as well as in, Los Angeles, California. Abnormally higher levels of radiation, in general, have been reported in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls, Denver, Detroit, Trenton, Oakridge, TN, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Boise.
Side effects of radiation exposure include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite and skin damage (swelling, itching, redness and hair loss). Long-term effects show a decrease in IQ, an increase in mental illness (as fat tissues in the brain are oxidized by radiation), and cancer. The rate of mental illness, particularly depression, has also been connected to proximity to nuclear testing and depleted uranium exposure. The U.S. has the highest percentage of mental illness at 26.4 percent of the population. France is at an 18 percent depression rate and may have the most nuclear plants of any country in the world. Brain tissue is affected by radiation, which causes free radical damage of DNA and destruction of brain cell membranes.
Radioactive uranium is particularly attracted to DNA, and so it is particularly damaging. Research is also clear that uranium particles are capable of long distance travel. Not only does I-131 affect the thyroid gland, but also breasts, ovaries, uterus and prostate, because all these organs need iodine to operate optimally. Almost all major radiation medical experts agree that there are no safe levels of radiation exposure.
As a holistic physician looking at patterns appearing all over the globe, it would appear that increased radiation exposure from several sources, “forced” vaccinations, chem-trails, GMOs and excessive use of psychotropic drugs, especially in children, all weaken the immune system, and decrease and impair brain function. These effects impair our ability to transcend the bio-computer mind, and thus prevent our collective evolution of consciousness on the planet. This entire world pattern evokes an eerie feeling that there is more at play here than meets the superficial eye.
The good news is that we have ways to protect ourselves. Although my March 28th list was more complex, on popular request I am providing a simpler, more condensed list based on the six strategies I previously outlined.
One radiation protective strategy is competitive inhibition, which means that when you have plenty of healthy minerals in the body, they keep the radioactive particles from affecting particular organs. I-131 is one of our big immediate concerns, and I am recommending a new form of colloidal singlet, scalar wave prepared iodine called Illumodine , which is a 2 percent solution and it is 100 percent absorbed. It is the best iodine in the world. When you order this, you will get the recommended dose. Other sources of iodine include four to 10 kelp tablets per day to build up iodine levels. It is estimated by some medical experts that approximately 13 mg daily will give 96 percent protection from I-131. This will protect your thyroid. In addition, iodine supplementation also removes toxins like heavy metals (i.e., mercury) from the body. It also neutralizes free radicals. Full iodine sufficiency has been shown to increase IQ by up to 13.5 points in a medical analysis from 17 clinical studies. It takes about four months at 15 drops, three times daily, to reach full iodine sufficiency. Iodine is the most potent killer of viruses, bacteria and fungi in the world. It also regulates estrogen production and is involved with the protection of hormones to stabilize mental health, control weight and increase our ability to fight infections. It also helps with food allergies. It is estimated that somewhere between 72 to 99 percent of people in the world are iodine deficient, so not only is iodine protective against iodine 131, but it is extremely good for building ones health. It is also known to be spiritually elevating. Scientific evidence dating back to 1953, shows that the thyroid even controls the pituitary gland and, thus, is the master gland of the body. Connected with the fifth chakra, it mediates between the mind and the heart. Its butterfly-shield shape is a symbol of transformation and protection.
There is one caveat to using iodine. It is such a potent detoxifier that people may have a healing crisis, so go slowly with it. An iodine healing crisis looks the same as iodine toxicity, making it hard to distinguish between them. We do have a reasonable approach to this. Because 72 to 99 percent of the world population is iodine deficient, it is best to consider a healing crisis before iodine toxicity, but we cannot discount biochemical individuality and toxicity response. These detox or toxicity symptoms include rapid heartbeat, itching skin, fatigue, skin outbreaks, skin swelling, swelling of the salivary glands, metallic taste, burning mouth and throat, sore teeth and gums, head cold symptoms, and upset stomach. Other symptoms include headache, sweaty palms and diarrhea (particularly if you have parasites). If you get these symptoms, stop iodine immediately and wait until all symptoms subside (usually three to four days) before resuming with a lower dosage. There has been no documentation of death from natural iodine. It is documented that one person, who ingested 100,000 times the recommended amount, had an uneventful recovery after a few days. A few people are also allergic, and these allergies may present as fever and joint pain, swelling of face and body, and even severe shortness of breath. Some of these are also symptoms of overactive thyroid. Paradoxically, I know of two cases of people with hyperthyroid, which is a deregulation phenomenon, who were cured using Illumodine. However, I would not recommend taking iodine supplements unless under supervision if one has a hyperthyroid condition. The point is that in this time of crisis, with I-131 radiation exposure in the world, it is important to take iodine as protection, but use caution and increase the dosage slowly to maximum.
Radiation protection strategy number 2 is chelation. I recommend eating as much sea vegetables as possible. Natural Cellular Defense (NCD) is the best chelator protection (except for protection against I-131, during the first eight days). It is best to take NCD at 10 drops four times daily.
Radiation protection strategy number 3 is to increase antioxidant intake. Radiation creates free radicals, which is the major mechanism by which it causes sickness, and decreases lifespan and death. I recommend Nano-Green Tea at one-half teaspoon twice daily. I also recommend taking Mega Hydrate at two capsules two times daily.
Radiation protection strategy number 4 is to take anti-radiation food and herbs. Spirulina, chlorella, E3Live and bee pollen are effective against radiation. Siberian ginseng, chaparral and aloe vera taken at 1 ounce twice daily are also effective. Gotu kola and gingko biloba are also recommended. I also recommend our new marine phytoplankton powder called Alpha 3CMP at one-half teaspoon once daily.
Radiation protection strategy number 5 is to eat organic and plant-source-only cuisine. Eating low on the food chain significantly reduces your exposure to toxins in general, as well as to radiation particles. Avoid all animal products including dairy, meat, fish and chicken, as these animals concentrate radioactive particles in their bodies 30 times more than are concentrated in plants. This situation makes the point that plant-source-only cuisine is not only the diet for the future expansion of consciousness, but for immediate healthy survival in the present.
Radiation protection strategy number 6 is political action to both close old nuclear facilities (which become more dangerous after 40 years of operation) and prevent the building of proposed nuclear plants. Avoid backscatter X-ray devices. Doctors Otis Brawley, Carl Bilimoria, Len Lichtenfeld and Dong Kim (neurosurgeon for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords), all make a point of avoiding the backscatter devices in airports as they all feel there is no safe dose of radiation. Actually, the FBI, the Soviet Union, Iraq and Afghanistan all use bomb and explosive powder-smelling dogs, which are far more sensitive and accurate than the backscatter devices. The backscatter devices are both poorly monitored and concentrate the radiation in the skin rather than spread it throughout the body, as well as not working as effectively as dogs.
Radiation in the water is a problem as no system, as of yet, fully protects from radiation. However, it appears that reverse osmosis (RO) water units and also water distillation can make a significant difference when combined with ion exchange filtration. Soon we’ll be carrying zeolite shower filters at the Tree of Life Store, to protect you in travel or at home. We are looking for the best in-house water filters to protect from radiation in water. I believe we’ll solve this problem in the near future with a special form of zeolite filter we are researching. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends RO to remove radioactive isotopes that emit beta particle radiation; however, I-131 is still present in water as a dissolved gas and RO does not remove it. We can wash our vegetables thoroughly. It helps. Activated carbon filters also remove I-131; unfortunately, carbon filters ultimately get clogged withradiation. Ion exchange filters used in water softeners are good for removing cesium 137. The optimal system would be a combination of filter devices. At the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, we use ion exchange and reverse osmosis filtration, so our water is relatively safe.
In conclusion, we have ways to protect ourselves. It is important that we as human inhabitants of the Earth look at our lifestyles and stop living as if we have a right to disregard the laws of nature. It is important to actively challenge public agencies that support anti-human and anti-Planet Earth dissonant activities. It is dysfunctional to mess things up and then pray for divine help. The Divine is not about to exonerate our imbalanced lifestyles on the earth. I call for us to examine our lives and contemplate how we can bring ourselves back into harmony with the living planet.
May your days be filled with health, peace and harmony with the living planet and yourself.

Many meat eaters claim that a vegan diet is insufficient without supplementation. While this is true, a meat-centered diet is also insufficient without supplementation. Meat eaters require supplementation just as much as vegans.
Studies continue to emerge linking meat-centered diets and chronic disease. If plant-source-only eaters have less chronic diseases than meat eaters, why don’t they live significantly longer? One of main reasons for this is carnosine deficiency. Carnosine is two amino acids, L-histidine and alanine, linked. It acts as a very powerful antioxidant. Most importantly, it prevents glycosylation – one of the main factors in aging.
Vegans are low in carnosine. Actually, they don’t have any because carnosine comes from meat. However, meat eaters don’t get enough carnosine either! A recent study showed that when people ate 7 ounces of meat (a big steak), carnosine levels increased 448 units, but after 5 ½ hours no carnosine was detectable. This depletion occurs because there is an enzyme in the body that breaks down carnosine in a way that would require you to eat 7 ounces of steak three times daily to get adequate carnosine from a meat source! So, meat eaters are also deficient in carnosine, but not as deficient as vegans. Research is suggesting that we need at least 1000 milligrams of carnosine daily to overcome this enzymatic reaction and to reach carnosine levels that are adequate to protect the body against glycosylation, aging, and to protect the brain and body against diabetes.
When proteins are glycosylated, they give off 50 times more free radicals. Free radicals are one of the driving forces behind aging because they oxidize the system. You could try eating three steaks a day, but that’s not so healthy and dramatically increases your potential for chronic disease. The solution is simple. There is a readily available, easy-to-use source of vegan carnosine. We recommend this for meat eaters, too, since everyone needs it.
Many people have heard that vegans are low in vitamin B-12. That’s absolutely true. Meat eaters are deficient, too. There is a minimum level of B-12 you need to survive and a maximum level that is optimal for long-term health. It is likely that 90 percent of meat eaters and vegans are deficient at optimal levels. The best thing for everyone is to take a B-12 supplement. When I was at Columbia Medical School in the 1960s, they did a study that found that 30 percent of people judged to have adequate B-12 levels (mostly meat eaters) had dramatically positive responses to getting B-12 shots. Depression went away, and a sense of well-being was reported in many study participants. Even in the 1960s they knew that on average people are low in B-12. I just want to emphasize the point that everybody is low in B-12. Why is this a big deal? People who are B-12 deficient have more brain shrinkage. With age, your brain begins to shrink. We can protect against this with B-12 supplementation.
Vitamin D helps protect you from 50 to 70 percent of cancers, diabetes and halves the percentage of babies being born prematurely. We know that 100 percent of kids under one year old are vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D provides protection against flu. It also facilitates healthy brain function and cognition. Research suggests meat eaters and vegetarians – somewhere between 50 to 85 percent – are deficient in vitamin D. Everybody needs to take a vitamin D supplement, whether you’re a meat eater or vegan. Along with vitamin D, vitamin A helps vitamin D work better. Vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin K work together. Vegans and meat eaters tend to be low in vitamin K.
Let’s look at Vitamin A as an example. Between 27 and 46 percent of people in the population have very poor conversion of beta-carotene to retinol (the usable form of vitamin A). Individuals supplementing with beta-carotene are only getting a 9 percent conversion into its essential, useable components. If you’re part of the approximately 40 percent who don’t convert, you won’t get enough vitamin A. We need vitamin A for a good immune system, so vitamin A supplementation is crucial.
At this time, we don’t have a really good vegan source of vitamin A, but we’re in the process of developing one. What’s missing is a particular enzyme that converts beta-carotene into retinol. Roughly 40 percent of the population is low in this enzyme. A synthetic retinol is available, but studies aren’t all that clear in terms of long-term health benefits. Synthetic substances are generally not ideal sources of nutrients. We are currently figuring out a non-synthetic, vegan supplement that will be available in the future.
What about magnesium? Eighty percent of the population is low in magnesium. In 1936, the U.S. congress found that 99 percent of the U.S. population had some mineral deficiencies. Whether a meat eater or a vegan, it’s clear there is a need for general mineral supplementation. Simple things that are concentrated, like Ocean’s Alive marine phytoplankton, are great sources of magnesium and other essential nutrients.
Other important nutrients to consider are omega-3 long-chain fatty acids. Research shows 90 percent of pregnant women are deficient in omega-3. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. We see a high incidence of depression and post-partum depression in individuals who don’t get enough DHA. Babies who don’t get enough DHA have poorer brain development and poorer vision. Meat eaters and vegans are deficient. Since 2.6 percent of the population is vegetarian and 0.05 percent is vegan, it’s safe to assume a population study that shows pregnant women are deficient includes predominantly meat eaters. Where should we get DHA? Fish oil has 2 percent of DHA, but it gets rancid, and anything from fish is highly contaminated with pesticides and herbicides. Where do fish get omega-3? Golden algae. You can easily get enough omega-3 with supplements like Omega Zen or V-pure.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that neither diet is adequate without supplementation given what’s going on in world. Everyone needs B-12, carnosine, vitamin D, vitamin A, DHA and magnesium including meat eaters. The optimum diet is one that makes you a superconductor for the Divine. That means adhering to at least an 80 percent live food, plant-source-only diet.

Dear Dr. Mercola,
Thank you for your excellent, thoughtful, and sensitive discussion on vegetarianism and the China Study. I have been researching and exploring the benefits of a plant-source-only diet for over 38 years (since 1973). Given the length of my practice and the scope of my experience, I have come to some working conclusions on the interrelated topics of diet, health, and longevity. I am writing this for the people who have become confused by your subtle, but clear avocation for a meat-centered diet over a plant-source-only diet, as they are tentatively inspired to shift from one paradigm of health and consciousness to a new level. Although I appreciate most of your points, my main objection is that your implication that people with higher metabolic protein requirements need to eat meat. Based on my extensive, successful, clinical experience over the course of 38 years of helping people do exactly that, with a 99.99% success rate, your position is misleading and untrue. Even former U.S. President Bill Clinton, who used to eat McDonalds hamburgers in front of the press, has turned to a plant-based diet and now drinks almond milk smoothies!
In summary based on my extensive clinical experience in supporting thousands of people becoming successful on a plant source only diet, I have found:
1. We are unique individuals for whom a consistently successful plant-source-only approach requires a thoughtful application of a constitutional approach to organizing ones diet. This includes, contrary to your subtle implication, that if someone is a fast oxidizer (i.e., needs a higher protein diet) that they need to be a meat eater. There are plenty of high protein sources in a plant-source diet, (such as spirulina, chlorella, and Klamath Lake algae – which are 60-70% protein and 40% assimilable as compared to meat, chicken, and fish, which are 14-16% assimilable). In other words, it is no problem for a fast oxidizer (high protein ratio need) to be 100% successful on a plant-source-only, live-food diet. I have had only one person in 40 years who wanted to be a vegan, not be successful using this approach; and they grew up near the Arctic Circle.
2. General health, vitality, endurance increases on the physical plane and an increased spiritual desire on a spiritual plane on a plant-source-only, 80% live-food diet. That is not to say, it is not possible to evolve spiritually on a meat-centered diet, but intense spiritual practices, such as the Tibetan monks utilize, are needed to overcome the negative impact of eating meat. As of 2005, the Dalai Lama has asked all Buddhists to return to a vegetarian way of life. Based on my clinical experience with thousands of meditators, a meat-centered diet suppresses the flow of the spiritual energy.
3. A plant-source-only, organic, at least 80% live-food, moderate fat and either low protein or carbohydrate intake, depending on constitution; low-glycemic, high-mineral, well hydrated and low caloric diet is best for general health, longevity, and spiritual life. Using these understandings and approaches 99.99% of the population can be successful, healthfully and spiritually, on a plant-source-only, organic, live-food diet.
4. Both a meat-centered and plant-source-only diet require supplementation for optimal health. It is a subliminal myth that a meat-centered diet does not require supplementation and therefore is better than a plant source only diet.
5. Eating higher on the food chain (meat, poultry, fish, and dairy) exposes one to significantly more environmental carcinogenic and neurotoxic substances which may strongly suggest that not only meat, but these toxins, increase inflammation and chronic disease associated with a flesh centered diet such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s (now seen as significantly related to environmental toxin exposure), diabetes, and heart disease, thus decreasing general health, wellbeing, and longevity in modern times. Unfortunately, to prove this with absolute scientific certainty may take thirty years or longer, as it did to prove smoking causes lung cancer. I suggest that the risk/benefit ratio encourages us to move to a safer and healthier diet now, as many may not make it another 30 years on the typical American meat-centered diet. Just like 40 years ago, I advised people to stop smoking before it was proven. As far back as 1990, in my book Conscious Eating, I cite research suggesting that animal flesh (being at the top of the food chain) contained approximately 15 times more toxins than vegetables. Root vegetables had 4 times more than leafy vegetables. Milk had about 5-6 times more toxins than leafy vegetables. This information in our rapidly increasing polluted environment becomes particularly significant in choosing the best diet for health. For example when looking at the Chernobyl disaster of 1986, statistics showed a 900% increase in perinatal mortality in the Boston area for three months after the nuclear incident. This was traced to radioactive I-131 released from the Chernobyl accident. Breastfeeding mothers were drinking cow’s milk (organic or otherwise) tainted by the I-131 landing on the grass the cows grazed on throughout the Boston area, and were passing this on to their nursing infants. Unfortunately, there have been many such incidents, secretly impacting our health and wellbeing.
6. The “idyllic, pure, primal, feral, meat-centered, food dream” is an impossible reality except for an elite fraction of the population, and it still doesn’t solve the issue of concentrated environmental toxins and the environment destruction the meat industry reeks. (The 416-page report aptly titled Livestock’s Long Shadow published by the Livestock, Environment, and Development Initiative [LEAD] presents on this topic.) In short, a meat-centered diet is a certain threat to global ecology.
Thank you for your thoughtful work in general, and in the future may you be more sensitive to these deeper issues.
Blessings to your health and spirit,

My extensive research over some 35 years has confirmed that a low-glycemic diet is one of the key components for good health, optimal gene expression, a healthy living colloid field, stable blood sugar levels, and a quiet mind. These all support spiritual awakening. The primary purpose of the low-glycemic diet is to prevent the “self-composting button” from being pushed. As briefly discussed in Chapter 6 of my book “Spiritual Nutrition,” the subtle organizing energy fields, negative environmental stresses, acidity, and a high-glycemic diet create a morbid pleomorphic change from healthy cells and protids to viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold, and fungus, which give off mycotoxins that begin to break down our living tissue. This self-composting process leads to chronic degenerative disease.
To identify a food as high- or low-glycemic is a statement about how fast that food raises the blood sugar. A low-glycemic food is one that slowly raises the blood sugar and has an overall minimal effect on the blood sugar levels. A high-glycemic food more rapidly converts to sugar and creates a significant elevation in the blood sugar. Typical high-glycemic foods include white bread, white potatoes, and white sugar. Examples of low-glycemic foods include most leafy green vegetables. The determination of the glycemic index of a food requires a sophisticated series of blood measurements of glucose over time after the particular food has been eaten. The average effect of a food on the test subjects is quantified, and the food is then rated on the glycemic index. The glycemic index indicates the glycemic effect of a food on most people.
There are many potential ill effects from a high-glycemic diet besides activating the “self-composting” process that leads to chronic degenerative diseases. One of the most serious chronic diseases is diabetes, which has now reached epidemic proportions in all ages of our population. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there was a 33 percent jump in diabetes in the past decade. There are 17 million diabetes cases in the U.S. Five to 10 percent of these are Type I.
Type I diabetes is usually characterized by an early age of onset that includes the destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas, which make insulin. This may have a genetic basis. Some theories suggest that an allergy to dairy products may create anti-bodies to the beta cells. It may even be caused by aflatoxin, a mycotoxin given off by candida and other fungal infections. Perhaps there may be multiple causes. Type II diabetes is primarily caused by a chronic excess of white sugar intake. This excess both exhausts the insulin production of the system and also creates insulin resistance. Type II diabetes is relatively easily healed by Phase 1 of the Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine and some specific herbs. For Native Americans this healing process has also been supported by the use of indigenous high-insulin foods.
A leading cause of heart and kidney diseases, blindness, and limb amputations, diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., responsible for 210,000 deaths per year. An estimated 16 million people have pre-diabetes.
A low-glycemic diet helps to create a healthy biological terrain, preventing or reversing self-composting and candida. In the context of “Spiritual Nutrition,” it is important to give a brief overview of the relevance of the low-glycemic diet, which minimizes high-glycemic fruits, refined carbohydrates, and cooked starchy vegetables. Phase 1 of the Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine contains the highest amount of low-glycemic foods, and therefore accelerates the shutting off of the “self-composting button.” It consists primarily of raw nuts, seeds, vegetables, oils, and algae. Because of the stresses in our modern environment and our poor nutritional choices in the past, Phase 1 is appropriate for most everyone for the first three months. Some people who are experiencing only mild self-composting can start with Phase 1.5, which includes a minimum of low-glycemic fruits, low-glycemic condiments, and fermented foods. Once the “self-composting button” has been shut off, one can move to Phase 2, which is a maintenance diet. It includes moderate-glycemic fruits and raw high-glycemic vegetables. It is also important to note that low-glycemic foods tend to be higher in minerals.
Here are some “magic” phase notes that are helpful tips for remembering what to and what not to eat on each phase of Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine:
-Phase 1 = Simple – no grains, nothing sweet
-Phase 1.5 = Includes fermented foods, grains, and low-sweet fruits
-Phase 2 = Higher-glycemic fruits, veggies, and coconut water
-Phase 1 = Okay to eat a small amount of Phase 1.5 fruits or veggies in a large salad
-Phase 1.5 = Okay to eat a small amount of Phase 2 fruits or veggies in a large salad
-Phase 2 = Minimal use of high-glycemic fruit, dried fruits, fruit juice, and carrot juice

A new threat, using another level of security scare, is being used to expose the flying population to either excessive ionizing radiation or ultra high frequency radiation. Thanks to the attempted airliner bombing on Christmas 2009, TSA Security Laboratory Director Susan Hallowell recently announced the agency’s intent to use back-scatter X-ray machines for passenger surveillance.
Obviously we need to refine our screening techniques to provide maximum safety for our air travel. However, these X-ray machines penetrate a few centimeters into the skin and reflect back a naked body image. While some will view this as a privacy violation, this is not the immediate problem. Thomas Wiggins, a radiation company engineer, admits that before 9/11, proposing such a system would be like ordering his own death sentence. He has changed his mind and now states that they could “scan a pregnant woman 200 times without a health risk.” This is a scientifically fallacious statement.
Those implementing this near-sighted agenda have deliberately ignored the outstanding research of Dr. John Gofman (Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California, Berkeley) showing that THERE IS NO SAFE DOSE OF IONIZED RADIATION. This statement is based on years of serious unbiased research. Ionizing radiation in the X-ray spectrum damages and mutates both chromosomal DNA and structural proteins in human cells. If this damage is not repaired, it can lead to cancer. X-rays also damage the interior walls of the arteries. These cells are then unable to process lipoproteins correctly, resulting in atherosclerotic plaques and mini tumors in the arteries, stimulating atherosclerosis and heart disease. Dr. Gofman’s studies indicate that radiation from medical diagnostics and treatment is a causal co-factor in 50% of America’s cancers and 60% of our ischemic (blood flow blockage) heart disease. He stresses that the frequency with which Americans are medically X-rayed “makes for a significant radiological impact.” The more people are exposed to these higher doses of radiation, the greater their risk of real, life-threatening cancer and heart disease.
A report in the British medical journal Lancet noted that after breast mammograms were introduced in 1983, the incidence of ductal carcinoma (12% of breast cancer) increased by 328%, of which 200% was due to the use of mammography itself. A Lawrence Berkeley National Lab study has demonstrated that breast tissue is extremely susceptible to radiation-induced cancer, confirming warnings by numerous experts that mammograms can initiate the very cancers they may later identify. Dr. Gofman believes that medical radiation is a co-factor in 75% of breast cancer cases. With this information, it would not be very intelligent to expose your breasts to radiation from X-ray machines at airports. This is an explicit danger to American women. (Infrared mammography is a far safer diagnostic tool.)
Yes, we should improve security, but these procedures must not introduce a scientifically proven, life-threatening hazard to our health. America’s cancer rates are already rising in every category. Airline pilots and cabin crews suffer more skin and breast cancer due to higher levels of radiation while flying. Dr. Abram Petkau has uncovered significant statistical research showing that a pregnant woman flying in an airplane in her first trimester exposes her baby to enough radiation to increase its risk of leukemia sixteen times.
The other source of surveillance being considered is ultra high frequency radio waves. There are scanners available that produce a frequency 1000 times higher than is healthfully advisable. Some examples include radar, producing a wide variety of radiations and causing cancer and neurological problems; microwaves, which are also noted to cause cancer; and even ultrasound: Swedish research on the use of ultrasound technologies on fetuses indicate that it may cause subtle brain damage and be associated with delayed development and learning disorders.
The attempted terrorist attacks are cause for concern, but we need to think about appropriate security without creating a screening system lethal to our population. In addition to effectively enforcing those systems already in place, there are many other forms of security screening that could work.
I am urging you to start expressing your concern now. We must strongly protest to convince authorities that this is a dangerous and thoughtless approach, which will increase the risk of cancer, atherosclerosis, heart disease, and brain damage to our population. The risk/benefit analysis does not justify these measures, which are at best foolish and at worst genocidal.
Blessings to your health and spiritual wellbeing.
Gabriel Cousens, M.D.
