My Favorite Superfoods!
Howdy Health Pioneers,
I thought we’d try something new for 2012—Oldies but Goodies! Starting today, on Thursdays I’ll post a previous article. Together we’ve built up a lot of content, and I don’t want you to miss one juicy morsel just because it’s been awhile. In the meantime, I’ll be working on a redesigning the site based on your responses to the survey in November including making it easier to navigate and find the info you need. Wowzers, are you smart! Thanks for your feedback, and enjoy our first featured Oldie but Goodie article from Ani Phyo (below).
Peace & veggies,
KC

I try my best to make sure I nutrify with the following raw food superfoods everyday for optimal health and vitality. Plus, when my body’s getting all the nutrients it needs, I feel satisfied so I have less cravings and eat less too. This leads to a healthy inside, which shows up on the outside as clear skin and eyes, shiny hair, healthy nails and that glow of radiance. So eat up and beautify!
- Blue green algae like E3Live, either in flakes or the frozen whole version. This raw food can be a bit intense, but is super for strengthening our immune system. I put a couple Tablespoons in a morning smoothie to mask the taste.
- Kelp noodles and sea vegetables, high in minerals, fat free, gluten free, wheat free, low in carbohydrates and calories. Kelp Noodles are a raw food, and have only 6, that’s six, calories a serving! A great natural source of iodine too.
- Maca root powder, strengthens our adrenals to handle stress, and balances hormonal levels. Stronger adrenals means greater health overall.
- Omegas from raw, sprouted hemp, flax and chia. I blend it all into my morning smoothie. I also love placing a couple Tablespoons of chia in a bowl with dried fruits like goji berries and golden berries. Both are high in antioxidants to combat free radical damage and oxidation of our cells, keeping us looking and feeling more youthful and vibrant. Soak chia and fruit in your favorite nut milk for 5-10 minutes to hydrate into a gel, and enjoy! Chia holds a ton of water, and keeps our skin hydrated.
- Antioxidants from acai, blueberry, mangosteen. Navitas Naturals has a great raw food mix of these in powder form, which I put in my smoothies.

Ok help me out here….I am still learning what all these new wonderful foods are and where to find them in my local grocery store! I had to google pictures of some of these things to get a better idea of what they are!
Would Kelp noodles be in asian/ethnic foods area?
If for some reason I can’t find them in my local store, is there a good website to order from?
Hi Ani!!!! My husband and I make dishes out of your recipe book EVERYDAY!! You are hands down my most favorite RAW FOODY. My husband is a chef, so I was used to beautiful, wordly flavors in our meals. Your book, gives me that. I just love it!!! We have a blast coming up with new ideas as well. The other night we had some “Veggie Sushi” and mixed red beet with pinapple. I would never have thought of that. But man was it delish and so very beautiful. You are very inspiring to me!
Thank you for the post! I’m excited to see more from you!

You put all that in your smoothies and they still taste good? Hmm, I’m skeptical. What would you recommend putting in the drink to mask the flavors of all of that if you the type who doesn’t the taste of powders and potions? Thanks for the list!

Hello, I found you through the amazing Tara Stiles, and I heard your story. Amazing. At first I thought, omg, is this for real? You kicked cancer in the butt, girl!
I suffer from depression, I’m not really that old, almost 18. I kind of been depressed my whole lif, so they started me on some pills, wich I don’t like. I don’t really belive in pills. But today I thought, If she can beat cancer then I can beat this silly depression.
You are amazing and inspiring and I hope you’re feeling well .
Lots of love from Sweden.
I don’t have a lot of experience with super foods, but I do love goji berries and cocoa nibs in my trail mix. Also, anything to do with coconut.
Nice to see E3Live on the list! Thanks!
How much Maca root powder do you take?
I have your book and love it – I am bridging to raw and I have a question: you mention Blue Green Algae – is not Spirulina blue algae – confused
The previous comment had the wrong email so here goes again – I have your book and love it – I am bridging to raw and I have a question: you mention Blue Green Algae – is not Spirulina blue algae – confused
Love seeing these discussions about super foods. Your list is great and I agree that to stay healthy it’s good practice to incorporate them into your daily routine.
My family enjoys making a green smoothies each morning with some scoops of different super foods.
We also enjoy dehydrating cookies with some added super foods to keep up our energy between meals. They’re also a great snack while on the road, plus they keep us away from the processed stuff out there.
I have read that women who have breast cancer shouldn’t take maca root powder. Can you tell me more?
To Rebecca – the movie Food Matters talks about using high doses of niacin for depression. It nay be worth researching. Depression is a possible sign niacin deficiency. Wishing you the best:)

There’s another superfood you should know about called the Aroniaberry (chokeberry). It is native to North America and contains one of the highest levels of antioxidants – anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins of any fruit. These powerful berries have been utilized for years because of their overall health and wellness benefits. Learn more at http://www.superberries.com.
