I agree. Forgiveness isn’t for them. Forgiveness is something that will provide relief for us. It isn’t healthy holding grudges. It doesn’t gain you anything. You just wind up being filled with hatred and negativity.

Hi Terri, I just found your blog page in Google. I know this post is way too old. But this is timeless and still we can use this in our everyday lives. This is an insightful post.
For me, what makes hard in forgiving is forgetting. People can easily say they forgive someone, but their brain can’t just forget the offense made by that person. If we want to forgive, we must forget.

I have been working on forgiveness in my life as well. As hard as it is, I am trying very much and I know I will forgive over time. My doctor gave me a 5 step sheet on forgiving. I find that when something starts to bother me about my past the sheet really helps. Thanks for this post!

Someone shared with me a deep pain and anger they had been carrying around with them for many years. While in a class together this person chose to forgive the one who did them wrong, so long ago. When finally in communication again the person had no idea what they had done–it was a misunderstanding. This misunderstanding had kept my friend in a sort of prison.
When we forgive it in no way means we are condoning the undesired behavior.

I totally agree with you on this and I love your eight ways to forgiving. It is something that is hard to do, but I know that forgiveness not only helps the offender, but truly us!
