Sole: What, Why, and How?
Today, Kris and CSL have asked James Frame to share the benefits of Sole, which is especially handy during cold and flu season! James works with a medical team at Natural Health International to empower and educate consumers. Read on to learn about how sea salt affects the body and how you can integrate Sole into your daily life…
Vaccinations, antibiotics, antihistamines, cold and flu tablets… immune system?
Over the last seven months, I have been on the road, spending most of my time in hotel rooms, planes, hire cars, and shaking hands with on average forty people a day. Yet not once have I been sick or even had a sniffle…except for the one hangover in NYC, but that is another story.
A number of friends, some of them travelers like me, have been sick once every two months! So what is my secret? I have a strong immune system. An immune system is a combination of biological processes that protect against disease.
One of the most important foundations of our immune system and the function of our entire body are minerals. Sodium chloride (salt) is close to the top of this list. As an example, osmosis, the transfer of liquids from one cell to another, is managed by the salt concentration in the cells. The liquid in a cell always moves from a cell with a lower salt concentration to a cell with a higher salt concentration. In fact, a number of the doctors I work with have found that patients who take Himalayan Crystal Salt with their supplements often only need half the amount of supplements!
The body always strives to balance the amount of salt concentration so that the energy is transmitted equally throughout the body. That is why having completely purified water with no minerals isn’t such a good idea. The pure water you put into your body often doesn’t hydrate optimally and leeches out minerals from your cells as the body tries to create equilibrium.
Your body is composed entirely of minerals and water. As an incredibly powerful solvent in your body, the hydrogen molecules in pure water provide nutrients in the form of energy to your cells and remove discarded, used energy. Without regular replacement of the water in your body, the cells will die. Likewise, without replacing essential trace minerals systematically in the correct, water soluble, ionic form, the cells will malfunction, become weak and diseased.
In order for your body to benefit from the minerals you take in, they must be extremely small. Their size is measured in angstroms. As a reference point, a sheet of paper is 1,000,000 angstroms thick. So you can understand that the minerals your body is looking for must be introduced in a way that your body can use. Even though larger than angstrom size minerals can be eventually absorbed by the blood, the angstrom sized minerals can be absorbed by individual cells. And that’s where they do the most good.
Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium are the five essential or major minerals for your body. Other important trace elements consist of chromium, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, and zinc. Additionally, selenium plays a key role in the maintenance of good health. Other trace elements like sulphur, nickel, cobalt, fluorine, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen also have a part to play in your well being. The human body depends upon 84 of the known 106 elements to maintain optimum health, many more than are now recognized.
“All diseases of humanity can be attributed to the lack of minerals in our bodies.” Linus Pauling, PhD winner of 2 Nobel prizes said, “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment, to a mineral deficiency.” Experts tell us that minerals are rarely found in the natural foods grown on the table of the Earth today because our soils are depleted of minerals.
Himalayan Crystal Salt contains all 84 minerals, the five essential minerals and all trace minerals, that are ionized in water and can be readily absorbed by the cells in your body.
The best way to absorb these minerals is in a liquid form called Sole
Sole (so-lay) is the mixture of purified water and Himalayan Crystal Salt creating the ultimate infusion of ionized minerals into a highly bio available liquid form.
When water and this salt come together they create this new form, Sole. When water combines with salt the positive ions of sodium surround the negative ions of the water molecules and the negative ions of chloride surround the positive ions of the water molecules. The other 82 mineral elements found in the salt also ionize and split into other complex ionized compounds. In this process the physical or geometrical, as well as the chemical structure of the salt and the water, is changed and a totally new structure is formed, a third dimension. Water is no longer water and salt is not salt anymore. The minerals are now small enough (angstrom sized or smaller) to be able to pass into the cells, being immediately available as electrical potentials, or ENERGY.
Each of the ionized minerals in the sole represents the ionized minerals naturally occurring in your blood and in similar proportions. And each mineral element carries its own unique vibration or frequency pattern of energy and benefit to the body. When combined, your body receives the entire combination and natural synergy of minerals and vibrations. More scientifically this is explained by the overall availability of electrolytes to built up and thus the conductivity between cells in the body is increased, which in turn affects the circulation.
This whole process can have some pretty amazing effects, including, as Dr. Oz pointed out last week, addressing acid reflux. Other areas we have seen is balancing your pH, normalizing metabolic functions and increasing cellular function.

I agree with AG; however, a holistic Dr. here in MI swears by unrefined Celtic Sea Salt – he may get kickbacks from Selina Naturally as that is the brand he supports … anywho…
I think ANY brand of unrefined sea salt would do the trick. 1/4 to 1/2 a tsp a day is what I’ve heard – and making sure you drink all your water. I can’t ever remember what the amount of water is…
CSL posted this blog to educate readers on the benefits of Sole. Since this is Kris’ favorite brand, we asked James and his medical team to share their knowledge with readers. Of course there are many other brands of sea salt that can be used to make Sole. We hope that you’ll share your experiences with this practice in the comments section!
Peace & sea salt,
Team CSL
The most pristine salt on the market is Radical Health’s SUN FIRE SALT. It is amazing! It is a combo of Himalayan,Bolivian Rose, Ming Dynasty, just to name a few. The most important thing about salt is this: IT SHOULD NOT BE GROUND BY SUPPLIER USING NICKEL GRINDERS! Most are, even the popular Himalayans at WF. SUN FIRE salt is not ground in nickel grinders.
thank you for the great reminder of the benefits of Sole. I have Himalayan Rock Salt (by the way it is available in most health food stores) in my cupboard. Time to make some more brine! I have been told of it’s benefits for several years by a couple of NDs.
A great guide on how to make your own Sole :)
Thank you all for your comments. I am sorry you saw this blog as disingenuous that is certainly not our intent. We researched salt from all over the world for over 5 years before we chose this source. In relation to any salt doing this, unfortunately that is not the case – here is a link to some more of the clinical research on this exact Himalayan Crystal Salt http://www.himalayancrystalsalt.com/clinical-research.html and as an aside we have three companies (one including a NASA scientist) who have also been research salt and this research which shows the profound effects sole has on health will be coming out in the next 9 months. Part of this research looks at monatomic elements and high spin states which if you research these concepts takes sole to a whole other aspect which is extremely exciting. As we know with water it is just the content but the structure which impacts hydration and its benefit… it is the same with salt and that is part of the many reasons why the unique structure we have is so important for our body.
Sorry re the last sentence it is meant to read “not just the content but the structure”
Dear James,
I found you article very interesting. As with anything you use or sell you must love it use it and enjoy it. I mention my mission all the time.. out of love for what it can do for others and not out of sheer need for attention. So thanks. I find this very interesting .. last night I found myself sniffing sea salts and water to avoid getting a cold. I did it in a very clumsy manner and managed to swallow as much as I sniffed maybe that helped keep the cold at bay. It never set in. What I am wondering is what is a good ratio of sea salt to water to drink? Does it have adverse affects on people if you take to much and what benefit could this have on someone with ALS/MS I am very interested in boosting my husbands immune system because right now he has a very bad one. We take mega doses of vitamen D, several other things prescribed in the vitamen and mineral world. What would you suggest? Thanks for the ideas. Happy Sole. Callie
Hi Callie,
We suggest a table or tea spoon of Sole solution for every 8oz of water. And yes I think Himalayan Crystal Salt would be very beneficial to his immune system. If he has MS his GI tract is also something to look at. The highest quality pro biotic we have found in the world is http://www.progurt.com this has human strains not animal and also a satchel has 100 billion cultures which if you make into the progurt increases to 1 trillion… yes you read that right. That means 200ml of progurt a day is 200 billion versus the highest product in the US which is about 50 billion. Check out their website as its benefits for MS are huge!
PS I am completely in agreement with your mission!
Where is Kris these days? I miss her posts the most. Come back to us Kris!
OK…so these items are SO expensive!!! The Progurt is $400-1000? Yeah, like I’ve got an extra dime as it is!
What gives CSL??
Becky I am just trying to give you the benefit of decades of research and provide information on the best products on the market. Many people who have MS and conditions like that simply want improved health and realize that getting something that works, even if they actually have to pay for it, is worth it. Also a product which fixes your health results in a reduce need to spend money on your poor health in the future and would increase your productivity to have less sick days and possibly earn more. As a comparison Bio K which is regarded as one of the top probiotics in the US costs $5 per day and you get 50 Billion cultures. Progurt works out to be $3 per day and you get 150 billion.
where do you get sole? i don’t see any links. or it’s possible i missed them because i’m going blind.
Jenni they stock Himalayan Crystal Salt Stones from which you can make Sole in the Crazy Sexy Store :)
Thank you so much for this post! I have been using sole for about two months now and I’m beginning to see a difference in my energy level at the end of the day [I no longer have that "must eat now" voice when I arrive home from work], and my salt cravings have WAAAYYY decreased. Previously, it was all about the chips, but since taking sole, those cravings eventually went away… cool.
yay i found some himalayan crystal salt! :)
okay, i have another question. i saw the salt lamps at Whole Foods and was wondering what the benefit is of them? or if there is a benefit? thanks!
AG and Andrea. Instead of being so cynical about the type of salt, why not try the sole and comment on its benefits first.

That was just a sales pitch for a product his company sells. Seems disingenuous.
