Thank you for this post. I was diagnosed with IBD 4 years ago. I took gluten and dairy out of my diet and significantly decreased my symptoms. My flare-ups increase with stress, so I practice yoga, meditation, mindfulness, breathing, and gratitude, make sure to sleep enough, drink green smoothies, exercise, and laugh as much as possible. By making my body and health my priority, I slowly started to feel better and am feeling better now than in years!

We need to teach health practitioners to look at the whole person - treatment can include so much more than just medication. The Center for Mind-Body Medicine, www.cmbm.org, does a wonderful job educating health providers to use an integrative approach to heal.

This post brought tears to my eyes and I'm so happy to hear you're doing better. Thank you for sharing your journey. I wish you all the best!

I like your post. I too have crohns. The nature of this disease is to go in and out of remission. It's important to be aware that going into remission can happen seemingly as a cause of something but would have happened anyway. For example, I went into remission after reducing my beef intake. It was also after switching matresses, changing tooth paste brands, and using a different shade of lipstick. I don't know if any if these caused the remission or just coincided with it. Best of luck on your journey! Try to remember to enjoy your food and have fun and don't limit yourself too much!

Your story is truly inspiring to me! I too was told by several GI doc's that diet has nothing to do with it, imagine that as they want to keep pushing the drugs that pay their salaries! It's hard for me to think that I can no longer eat the foods that I love as I love love my breads, pastas etc. I have recently heard about "food combining" which I am trying currently. Thanks again for your story!

Congrats! Paul Nison is one of my favorite raw authors. Mainly because he doesn't say you must eat "raw". He merely suggests you simply eat the very best foods you can afford and access.

Lauren, I only just read this now. It's quite powerful. Stay well and enjoying your raw / vegan lifestyle. Happy NY tomorrow (!) and onwards and upwards. Your hubby sounds great by the way. I am glad for you, Zu
