This was so informative and eye-opening. I’ve found myself accepting vintage leather passively even as a vegan, but now I am faced with having to make a conscious decision not to even support the “image”. I’m hitting up Moo-Shoes next!!

I saw the movie Earthlings a month ago and decided I could no longer buy leather products. I even ordered vegan shoes to start carrying at my store after watching it. That movie really changed the way I think about what I eat and buy. Thanks for the great article.

Thank you so much for informing us. I did not know and I am repulsed by the truth. Being a vegan I already knew the truth about food and where it came from. Now I feel that I cannot accept myself anylonger buying leather. I’ll find other ways, no doubt.
Thanks again. By the way, the film Earthlings…I just watched the first 30 minutes and I cannot stand it any longer.

I’ve been a vegetarian for 20 years, eating meat is disgusting to me. It always seemed okay to buy leather partly because it is hard to avoid in shoes but also because of the sexy allure you refer to in your posting.

A few weeks ago I rented the film “Earthlings”, which I could barely watch, and that put me over the edge. I vowed to never again buy leather products. It’s a hard habit to break as I was recently drooling over a leather purse that was oh so hip, then remembered I wasn’t buying leather any more. I know the alternatives are out there and they are getting easier to find. Last week I ordered my first vegan belt. I’m so excited!

Thank you. I agree, especially after seeing the documentary Earthlings. While I agree, I would like to understand the process of producing non-leather products (namely shoes), meaning how damaging is that to our environment and fellow man/animal?
